Tucker and Dale vs Evil (2010)
Directed By: Eli Craig
Where to get it: Magnet

The Prologue
Tucker and Dale vs Evil turned out to be the very last 2011 horror film I got to see before I made my Top 10 list for the year. And I’m very happy that I did because I got a movie that made the list and not only that, it bumped a very good movie off the list to take it’s spot. A film about two good ol’ country boys in the middle of the world’s worst misunderstanding is a heck of a concept and if you have yet to see it, I can assure you that it brings something that’s both funny and different to the table.

The Movie
Two lovable West Virginian hillbillies, are headed to their “fixer-upper” vacation cabin to drink some beer, do some fishin’, and have a good time. But when they run into a group of preppy college kids who assume from their looks that they must be in-bred, chainsaw wielding killers, Tucker & Dale’s vacation takes a bloody & hilarious turn for the worse.

When this film opens we are with a car load of very typical horror characters. We have the arrogant ass, the pretty blonde, the nerd, the black guy, the guy who thinks he’s black, ect. But just when you think the film is going to roll down the same old path we have seen time and time again we shoot to our real leads of the film, two backwood hillbillies named Tucker and Dale. And if you are from the country or you’ve ever known anyone from the country, I’m sue you’ve seen a few “Tuckers and Dales” in your lifetime.

So the basis for the story is, Dale spots one of the city girls taking a trip to the country and he gets the hots for her. Tucker encourages him to make a play for her and after one thing after another goes down, they end up with the poor girl in their cabin after she has an accident. This leads to her dumb friends thinking the worst and then Tucker and Dale thinking the worst, so next thing you know, we have a bloody and funny comedy horror on our hands that is just an all out blast to watch. And no worries, you don’t have to be from Tennessee or some other southern state to enjoy what’s going on or get behind Tucker and Dale in all this madness.

The movie doesn’t end as well as it starts, but the fun level doesn’t drop all that much. A silly twist is tossed in, but it would take much more than that to kill the momentum this movie builds for it’s self for 3/4th of the film. And while there is a few moments of crappy CGI gore, there is also some nice gore and kills tossed in there that make the viewing of the film all the more enjoyable. It might be hard for anyone who loves horror comedy films to watch this and not get enjoyment from it. With it’s faults limited and a great cast plus an awesome plot, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil is for sure one of the better films that came out in 2011.

The Conclusion
Who would have guessed that a comedy horror about a love struck hillbilly and his best friend could have been this much fun? Not I, but I do wish I had watched this one a lot sooner than I did. It’s currently an instant watch on Netflix, so if you have yet to see it, be sure to.
