The Gruesome Death of Tommy Pistol (2010)
Director: Aramis Sartorio
Where to get it: Breaking Glass Pictures
The Gruesome Death of Tommy Pistol follows the disappointing life of struggling actor Tommy Pistol, who has turned his back on family and friends to pursue his dream of stardom. When he finally hits rock bottom, Tommy seeks solace in a penis pump and discovers that, even in his dreams, he still fails miserably. What he doesn’t realize is that his whole life has been leading up to the moment when he awakes to find that he’s run out of second chances and, despite his regret, there is no turning back.
Well “Tommy Pistol”, which oddly enough stars a porn star who IS named Tommy Pistol in it’s lead, is a lot of things. It’s artsy, it’s corny, it’s a little gruesome as the title would lead you to believe, and it’s also a little too indie and silly in areas. The story starts off well enough. We see Tommy as a struggling actor that might be a bit on the immature side of things. He wants to be an actor but can’t get anything better than an extra. And he’s not even doing good at that. It then turns to him being fired from his real job, the wife leaves him, and then when we hit the next level of the film this is where things get a little odd and too silly for their own good.
Something happens next, and we are in Tommy’s dreams. At this point things get nearly on an anthology type level. We go from seeing Tommy go mad and start sporting a human skin suit to seeing him with some weird girl with stuff all over her, being the downfall of something else Tommy is trying to do in his dreams. It’s a little goofy at times, but I guess it’s nothing that bad. But it’s also nothing that will stick with you for long after the movie has ended. I think this is a movie that could have do a lot better to have dropped some of the silliness and went for more of a serious route. But I will admit that it does pack some fun indie gore moments. Sadly, just not enough for me.
