A doomsday virus of madness and death has destroyed the world’s adult population. Only the young survive. They watch in horror as their parents go mad and die. Haunted by terrifying memories, they fight for life in a bleak wasteland. Gangs of teens and outlaw children roam the scarred landscape. Sisters Evie and Fran keep to themselves, two outsiders gathering food and moving from town to town.
I take a film like Children Of A Darker Dawn as a prime example that if the acting is there and the story is there you can make a very well-done and compelling film. Budget be damned when it comes to this one! The film takes something we’ve seen a lot of on DVD these days with the whole zombie/infected angle and tosses in enough Lord of the Flies to make something that is very drama filled, touching, and well worth the watch. Something like this might get lose in the fold with as many movie that seem to be getting released these days, but I think if you spot it you should watch it if you appreciate good storytelling.
As much as the story is interesting, the acting is just as strong if not stronger. I would go as far as to say that the acting in this movie might just be the overall best part about it. You can never downplay how well acting can make or break a film and this goes double when you are dealing lower budget films like this. Sadly, this might be the most overlooked film of 2013 when all is said and done, but this is a movie I would say you all should make an effort to seek out.
