If there’s one thing independent horror has taught me, it’s that sometimes the title tells you absolutely everything you need to know. Make Them Die Sleazy! isn’t interested in subtlety, class, or winning over people who think every movie should have Oscar aspirations. It wears its sleaze like a badge of honor, kicks the front door open, and asks if you’d like some gore with your grime.

Directed by John Miller and Chris Woods, this is exactly the kind of movie that knows its audience. It’s low-budget, unapologetically trashy, and proudly embraces the kind of exploitation cinema that would probably make your average streaming algorithm short-circuit. If you’re looking for polished Hollywood horror, you’ve accidentally wandered into the wrong neighborhood.

What makes Make Them Die Sleazy! work is that it never pretends to be anything it’s isn’t. The filmmakers know they’re making a grimy, over-the-top indie horror flick, and they lean into that with admirable enthusiasm. There’s plenty of blood, outrageous moments, and enough tongue-in-cheek attitude to keep the whole thing from taking itself too seriously. That’s a lesson a lot of bigger-budget horror films could stand to learn.

Sure, the budget limitations are obvious. Nobody is confusing this for a studio production, and the occasional rough edge is impossible to miss. But honestly, those imperfections almost become part of the experience. The DIY energy gives the movie personality, and it’s hard not to appreciate just how much fun everyone seems to be having while making it.

Chris Woods fans will also recognize some of the style and humor that would continue showing up throughout his later work, while John Miller helps keep the chaos moving at a brisk pace. The result is a movie that’s more interested in entertaining cult horror fans than impressing critics—and that’s exactly why it succeeds.

If you’re a fan of underground horror, exploitation films, and movies that proudly wear their sleazy reputation on their sleeve, Make Them Die Sleazy! delivers exactly what it promises. It’s messy, ridiculous, bloody, and surprisingly entertaining—a love letter to grindhouse excess made by filmmakers who clearly get the appeal.

One final bit of good news for collectors: this was originally a title you could only pick up through The Sleaze Box, making it a bit of a cult oddity to track down. Now it’s getting a new lease on life thanks to SRS Cinema, giving a whole new audience the chance to experience this gleefully grimy slice of indie horror.
