A group of young documentary filmmakers set off to uncover the true story behind the Black Water murders, a series of brutal killings where women were found dumped in the woods, savagely slain, with their mutilated bodies completely drained of blood. In an attempt to exonerate the man accused of the crimes, they journey into the wilderness where the deaths occurred and find themselves face to face with a form of evil they could have never imagined. What began as a mission to save a wrongly convicted man turns into a battle for their own lives.
Here we have yet another found footage film. This time around we have a group of people off to investigate the murders that took black at black water. For the next hour you pretty much won’t see anything outside of spooky stories and these people walking around, but work with me here. When the movie has about twenty minutes left scary things do happen and there are some jumps here and there. I just don’t know if most of you will be able to get to that point without issue, because at times it can become a chore.
The film really takes a lot from The Blair Witch Project and the Last Broadcast, but now days you need just something more to hold you over until the action starts. The vampire it self isn’t at all shabby and the by far coolest thing to come from the film. The ending was also very much like another classic horror film, so I don’t know if we have just an hour and twenty minutes of a tribute to horror or people actually trying to make something new that stands out. I’m not sure that things ever get to that point here, but as noted before you at least get a cool vampire if nothing else.
