Laurie and Hugh are a successful young couple who have just closed on a weekend home away from the city. Unbeknownst to them, the neighboring property contains the crumbling remains of a boarding school that was shuttered in the wake of an unspeakable massacre. The sole survivor of that massacre still resides in the ruins of the school, hiding from the world and wanting only to be left alone. When Laurie and Hugh’s friends explore the property, they have no idea that they disturbed an emotionally-broken killer: The Blood Widow.
While there are a few very important things that Blood Widow gets wrong, we can’t look over the things that this movie does indeed get right. At the heart of things we have a slasher film that does what all slashers should do. It offers up a pretty cast with nudity and it doesn’t shy away from gore and violence whenever it gets the chance to do it. It also gives us a killer with a very cool look. The fact it is a female killer under the cool costume is another change of pace from the norm these days and I can appreciate the effort to make things tradional and somewhat hip. So rest a sure the film is a watchable one at the end of the day, but there is a few things of note that I hope it addressed if there ever is a sequel to make the movie a lot better.

I think we needed a stronger lead here. I think the actress is fine, but the character (or any character here really) doesn’t come with enough of a reason to care about what happens to them. There is also the issue of not enough happening quick enough here. Things go at a slower pace with not much of note going down on screen. Those dull moments is what brings this film down overall. The film picks up at the end, like most slashers do. This one just doesn’t do enough leading to that and it hurt the fun of it a bit. The cool looking killer almost makes up for it. Almost! People who love slashers will be content with this one. If you are iffy on slashers you’ll be all the more iffy on this one!
