Thirty years ago, young mother Dulce was accused of murdering her husband and two children in their home. Despite her pleas that a malevolent force in the house was responsible for the killings, Dulce was sentenced to the maximum penalty of imprisonment for a crime she ultimately did not commit. Now, as part of her sentence, Dulce is sent back to her old home and the scene of the crime under house arrest, where she s forced to confront the horrifying memory of what happened there. But this time around she s determined to unravel the mystery that has haunted her so for long, and with the help of a local priest, give both her loved ones and her own spirits their much-needed peace. Filled with suspense from beginning to end, THE HOUSE AT THE END OF TIME is a gripping thriller about the demons that follow us and the power we have to vanquish them.

Is this a ghost story or something more? That is the question to ask yourself while you watch this thriller of a horror film that does manage to bring suspense and a very creepy vibe to the screen. It is certainly a well made horror film that plays up its environment very well and the atmosphere of it all really is clear and helps bring the most out of this none traditional ghost story. I always feel like the foreign countries do these types of films the best and where American ghost stories usually tend to follow the format, films like these do seem to go above and beyond to change things up and I am very happy that is the case. As a matter of fact the best American ghost story to come out in forever was The Conjuring and that might be the best one to compare this one. I’m not saying it is as good overall, but I’d say you could mention them both in the same breath in a lot of ways without feeling too bad about it.

The movie is a little long in the cinematic tooth. That doesn’t hurt things too much. I still would say shaving some of the running time off of this one wouldn’t have hurt things too much and would have perhaps made it even better than it is, because the only real fault I find in the movie is that is does seem to drag to out just ever so slightly in the middle before rushing out to the big finish. As far as ghost stories go you could do a whole lot worse than The House at the End of Time. Maybe the foreign nature will turn some away, but I also think the same style is really what makes this one what it is and I’d say for everyone to give it a shot, especially if you enjoy these types of horror films.
