Finally, a movie about the independent movie world! The story revolves around a director who is either despised or worshipped, depending on the viewer. His journey as a movie-maker provides laughs, but also rare insight into the realm of B movies. It’s an intensely hysterical comedy that is more informative than a documentary.
What you get here with Indie Director is two hours of Bill Zebub trying to tell his side of things in regards to why he does what he does. He also take the time to show us a lot of boobs and take a few shots at well known indie labels. Bill does his best work when he isn’t limiting himself to be shocking for the sake of shocking and offensive for the sake of being offensive. I think at the core this could be his best work to date. Maybe it isn’t as creative as Dolla Morte, but it is more level headed and actually takes a good look at the world of indie film making. In that regards alone the movie is a winner.
However, Bill, for the love of God did have to be two hours long? This movie would have been better had you just cut it down a bit and perhaps trimmed some of the fat off. It is a good story, an interesting story, but the story isn’t interesting for two whole hours. I’ll give it a pass just because I liked the subject and found it interesting, but you may not be able to get through all of it at once in one sitting. It isn’t bad, but a bit of clipping could have gone a long way to make it even better.
