Anne, married to a small-town Minister, feels her life has been shrinking over the past 30 years. Encountering “The Master” brings her a new sense of power and an appetite to live bolder. However, the change comes with a heavy body count.
We’ve seen the vampire story done a million times in a million different horror movies so I’m always happy when we see that taken into a new direction. That’s just what we get in Jakob’s Wife, a movie that stars horror legends Barbara Crampton and Larry Fessenden as husband a wife no less. Some choices she makes or doesn’t make leads her to becoming a vampire and then that’s when things get really interesting for the couple and for the people watching as well. I think this movie above all things is just fun and having fun watching newer horror films can be a bit of a rarity these days, so it’s a must that when something like this comes long we give it the proper respect it deserves.
And while the cast is full of performances that I think are good, we do need to give some spotlight to Crampton as Anne Fedder. She’s been great for a long time as most horror fans already know, but she is a sight to see in this one and I mean that in the best way possible. The movie is fun, has a good plot, and doesn’t shy away from gore. If you ask me that makes for a really good horror film. And it makes for one of the better vampire movies we’ve seen in a long time. Even if the movie tends to mainly push that vampire aspect to the side just a bit. You can check this out for yourselves right now on Shudder or if you are old school like and want to actually own it, you can get the Blu-ray from Acorn overseas. While it says region B on the back, it will play in your US players.
