Two movies of the same zombie story, shot by two different directors. One horrifying and gory night an innocent family of four is brutally hacked to pieces by their beautiful and maniacal housekeeper Ella. The next day, just as Ella is attempting to escape the scene of her heinous crime, a group of failed bank robbers take her hostage inside the family home. Trapped and helpless in the hands of criminals, Ella finds her troubles have just begun as her victims return from their shallow graves seeking bloody revenge!
Parts of the Family comes to us here in two versions. One is the original cut and the other is a hacked together job from Lloyd Kaufman featuring very Troma-like cut in and re-dubbing. They both have their own flaws, it just depends on what you are in the mood for. We can also give props to the films leads who spends much of the time topless and we can all be thankful for that, because in this rare case the nudity is the highlight of the film. The res of the film just really tosses a lot at the wall in hopes that something sticks, but nothing ever does.
The fault with the original cut is it just is boring. I hate to say something is just down right boring, but that is the issue with this one. The other cut is just typical Troma madness and that can sometimes be a good thing and other times be a bad thing. It tries to make the most of an already bad situation here and it only does so much to try to save this one. We do get blood and a nice pair of breast, but that is about it.
