Some shows try really hard to be quirky. Resident Alien just shows up, tilts its head like it’s studying humans for a midterm, and accidentally becomes one of the most entertaining sci-fi comedies on TV. Based on the comic by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, the series leans heavily on its absurd premise—an alien crash-lands on Earth, assumes a human identity, and then spends several seasons trying (and mostly failing) to understand humanity without completely annihilating it. Naturally, it’s a blast.

A huge part of why this works is Alan Tudyk, who delivers a performance that feels like a masterclass in controlled chaos. His “human” mannerisms are just off enough to be hilarious without turning the whole thing into a cartoon (okay, fine, sometimes it is a cartoon—but a very funny one). The show itself bounces between dark humor, small-town drama, and surprisingly heartfelt moments, all while never letting you forget that its main character would absolutely vaporize everyone if he had a slightly worse day.

Now, onto the Blu-ray release of The Complete Series, which—miraculously—doesn’t feel like it was assembled by aliens who only skimmed the instruction manual for “home media.” The presentation is sharp and clean, with strong HD transfers that really let the show’s mix of cozy Colorado landscapes and sci-fi weirdness shine. Colors pop, details are crisp, and everything looks comfortably better than your average streaming compression fest.

Packaging lands in that sweet spot between practical and respectable. It’s not some over-designed collector’s shrine, but it also doesn’t feel like the discs were shoved into a bargain bin case five minutes before release. It’s a proper “complete series” set—organized, sturdy, and shelf-worthy without being obnoxious about it.

As for extras, you get a decent selection of behind-the-scenes content, interviews, and featurettes. It’s not an overwhelming archive of content, but there’s enough here to satisfy fans who want a peek at how this delightfully weird show came together. Think of it as a solid bonus rather than a deep-space expedition into every production detail.

At the end of the day, Resident Alien: The Complete Series on Blu-ray is exactly what you’d hope for: a polished, well-rounded release for a show that somehow turned “awkward extraterrestrial learns about humanity” into consistently great television. It’s funny, a little strange, occasionally heartfelt, and just self-aware enough to keep everything from flying off the rails.

Honestly, if this is what alien infiltration looks like, we should probably just let it happen—and maybe clear some shelf space while we’re at it.
