Nicky (ChristopherAllport of WITHOUT A TRACE, SHARK, and NCIS), Shirley (Caitlin O’Heaney), Marie(Marilyn Hamlin) and two others from NYC travel deep into upstate New York fora long weekend vacation. Once at their destination they mix with Otis (WilliamSanderson of DEADWOOD, NEWHART,and THE X FILES), Mac Macauley (David Gale of THE RE-ANIMATOR, GUYVER, and TALES FROM THE CRYPT), and some locals who offer supplies, lumber, eggs, erotic cow-milking lessons, and they even like to tell strange tales. While the weekend vacationers have their fun with fishing, boating, nude sunbathing, relieving their sexual frustrations, and throwing costume dinner parties, there also marks the appearance of a masked killer who is dead set on ruining this weekend with whatever weapons are handy.
Savage Weekend has a memorable killer or two, it packs some memorable characters, and while the plot is somewhat common I don’t think it is bad when you look at it on paper. Then, why isn’t this movie any better? Well, when the back of the case clearly is making jokes about the fact that about every scene inside has the boom mic clearly in the shot you know you are in for a long 80 minutes. And, that is what happens here. The movie seems slow in parts without a hook and all the errors are very distracting.
Sadly, Savage Weekend is just boring. The movie is boring and the music isn’t very good either. The whole movie just comes across as a dull and messy mess of a film. I’m not saying there isn’t fun to be had watching the movie with friends and poking fun at all the errors, but this isn’t something you will enjoy watching alone. I don’t think there is much here to really keep you at all interested.
