James Gunn’s Superman is here to remind everyone that hope isn’t dead — it just needed a new haircut and a slightly less miserable script. For the first time in years, the Man of Steel feels like an actual hero instead of an alien existential crisis in a cape. This movie is colorful, funny, heartfelt, and just self-aware enough to know it’s a Superman movie, not a therapy session for comic book writers.
David Corenswet steps into the cape like he was born under two suns and raised on John Williams’ soundtrack. He’s charming, noble, and finally — finally — not brooding like Batman’s second cousin. Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane could probably out-report, out-fight, and out-quip everyone else in the movie, and the chemistry between her and Corenswet actually sizzles instead of simmering awkwardly in grayscale.
Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor is the cherry on this oddly hopeful sundae — equal parts genius, menace, and “guy who would absolutely write a 12-page Reddit rant about Superman ruining the economy.” He’s slick, smart, and thankfully doesn’t feel like another billionaire with daddy issues.
The movie itself moves at the speed of light — sometimes literally — and yeah, it tries to cram about four DC side characters too many into two hours, but Gunn somehow keeps it just grounded enough that you don’t feel like you’re watching a Justice League orientation video. The action is big, bold, and unapologetically comic-booky, which is refreshing after a decade of “what if Superman but sad?”
Sure, the ending dips into the usual CGI explosion soup, but by then you’re too busy grinning to care. It’s like the movie looked at every grimdark superhero flick of the last ten years and said, “No thanks, we’re having fun again.”
So yeah — Superman (2025) isn’t perfect, but it soars where it counts. It’s the most joyful DC movie in ages, and it proves that maybe truth, justice, and the old-fashioned kind of hope still matter — even if the guy delivering it wears his underwear on the outside.
