The 2025 reboot of The Naked Gun arrives like a whoopee cushion at a state funeral: you’re not sure if it’s brave, stupid, or both, but you’re at least curious enough to stick around for the sound it makes. Starring Liam Neeson (yes, that Liam Neeson), the film confidently barrels in with the energy of someone who has only a vague understanding of slapstick but is absolutely determined to do it anyway.

To its credit, the movie does manage moments that feel like the classic Zucker-style chaos—visual gags layered three deep, jokes delivered with the solemnity of a man reading his own tax audit, and background nonsense so silly you almost forgive the plot for being made of wet napkins. And Neeson, to everyone’s surprise—including possibly his own—leans into the deadpan absurdity with a charm that suggests he accepted this role either as a dare or as a form of therapy.

But let’s be honest: this reboot swings wildly between “hilariously dumb” and “just… dumb.” At times the humor hits like a perfectly timed pratfall; other times it has the grace of a man slipping on a banana peel and landing directly into a punchline that was outdated by 1998. A few jokes feel like they were pulled from the bottom drawer of a writer’s room desk—the one marked “Emergency Use Only (and Not Even Then).”

The plot—something about crime, corruption, and Neeson doing the most serious squinting imaginable while chaos erupts around him—exists solely to transport the audience from one comedic set piece to the next. And honestly? That’s fine. Nobody comes to The Naked Gun for narrative complexity. They come for laughs, and the movie gives you enough of them… just not consistently.

In the end, The Naked Gun (2025) is like microwave popcorn: sometimes it pops perfectly, sometimes a kernel explodes at the wrong time, and sometimes you get a burnt chunk that makes you question your life choices. But if you’re in the mood for goofy, uneven, occasionally inspired silliness—and you’ve always wanted to watch Liam Neeson moonwalk through stupidity with a straight face—you’ll probably have a good time.
