In August, 2008, 18 mountain climbers reached the top of K2, the second-highest mountain in the world. 48 hours later, 11 people were dead, making it the deadliest day in modern mountain climbing history. While memorials paid tribute to those killed, there were also condemnations about why.’ Why do these athletes risk everything to reach a place humans are simply not meant to go? Why do they put their lives and the lives on others on the line in order to satisfy some undefinable need? With breathtaking cinematography and jaw dropping reenactments based on the testimony of those who survived the climb, THE SUMMIT is a thrilling documentary about the very nature of adventure in the modern world.
Some of the better and most compelling films you see on the market these days tends to be films that are based off actual events. Eighteen people climbed a mountain and only seven made it back. This tells the tale of that tragic event and it does so in a very well shot and masterful way. You can’t help but get interested in the story we get on screen here, mainly due to the fact that the events is true. The film is done in a realistic tone and it is done in a very interesting tone. I don’t think it will have a hard time at all finding people who are on the edge of their seats with what they see here.
The acting is also something that will make you really appreciate what you get here. You can feel the emotion jumping off the screen and it is just what a film made like this needs to really work. This movie does many things well and it should be a film that makes a lot of people really think about what they have seen when they watch it. If the idea of this story interest you, then I say by all means check it out, because you will be very happy with the results if you do. It is well shot, connects with the crowd, and has great acting.
