Atomic Brain Invasion (2011)
Director: Richard Griffin
Where to get it: Alternative Cinema
When a mysterious spacecraft carrying a deadly intergalactic plague crash-lands in a small New England town, it’s up to a group of misfit high schoolers and an alien abductee to stop the army of slime-spewing brain creatures from their one goal: kidnapping Elvis Presley! If that plot doesn’t make you want to watch this film than I don’t know what will.
Richard Griffin is the master of making films that are true to retro style films. And what we have here with Atomic Brain Invasion is a humorous and solid effort. If you’ve see any of his other films you’ll get what you expect. You have a retro style that packs some clever dialogue and good acting from all the people we usually see in Richard’s films. This movie does seem to be a little slow out the gate, but once the brain aliens are in the mix and Elvis jumps in with his kung-fu action it’s a good time for the rest of the way.
Of course this is a film you shouldn’t be taking too seriously (obviously). Some nerds, a group of bullies, their alien buddies, and The King himself, Elvis, go into action against some aliens who want the king for some reason or another. The aliens are fascinated by the fact people can lock doors and the bad aliens have brains, eyes, and human hands..YES..it’s THAT kind of movie. And still this movie remains fun and funny until the end. If you’ve liked other films by Richard Griffin you should get a kick out of this.
