From the mind of HP Lovecraft comes the story of The Necronomicon, known to many as the book of the dead. A book so evil that it is made from human flesh. A book that can bring the dead back to life. The Necronomicon was created by the wickedest man in the world. The magician Aleister Crowley while visiting the depths of Hell and depravity. Now Dragon Studios takes you to place that has only ever been written about in the books of H P Lovecraft. As you to can visit The Necronomicon.

I am a movie goer that can appreciate the attempt to do something different with some material that might have been done more than a few times before. In the case of the 2023 take on Necronomicon, I can’t really say too many nice things about it, other than state the fact that they did at least try to do something different with the material. After I say that, I’m afraid a nice thing to say about this movie might come few and far in between, so let’s just say we appreciate anytime a filmmaker gets a movie made. Which is a hard thing to do. But time and time again, we run across movies that certainly feel as if someone needed to step in and stop it or make somebody rethink it. This is one of those types of movies.

If you don’t want to take my word for it and test the water yourself before you buy this DVD (which is a DVDr for the record), you can find it on Tubi free with ads. I will say this, the first 15 or so minutes of this one might be the hardest to get through. The style just doesn’t work. After that, it doesn’t get a whole lot better but it at least gets better than what we are dealing with around that mark.

I love Lovecraft material and I am a fan of MOST movies that feature the classic Necronomicon, but it might be best to save that for horror movies that are going for more substance than style. More steak than sizzle. You’ll find some actors you know here such as Michael Madsen and Tom Sizemore, but you might not find a whole lot of other stuff to look forward to here.
