Government scientists create a fast-growing, genetically engineered strain of mold to wipe out cocoa fields – but this MOLD also feeds on human flesh! When the mildew is mysteriously released in a secret lab, it wages its own war on a group of unsuspecting scientists and military officials, who are forced to fight their way to safety while trying to stop the MOLD! from reaching the outside world.

Mold is for sure a throwback to the 80s and it also has a very cool little story going on within it. We have a movie that is funny, has some nice gore, and takes enough twists and turns along the way to remain interesting until the very last shot. If the movie did have a problem it would be the pacing and the fact that the movie only seems to kick it into higher gear an hour in. Anything after that point is more or less great.

We also have some very interesting characters here with some inner issues of their own. We get a bit of a love triangle in the middle of the mold and madness. I’m usually not a big fan of that sort of stuff, but it does work really well here. Do I think Mold is a great movie? Nope, I’m afraid not. But I do believe it is a lot of fun and a lower budget companion to stuff from the 80s like The Blob.
